Canterbury & District Model Engineering Society |
---|
Canterbury and District Model Engineering Society was formed in 1972 by a group local model engineers, who wanted to share their hobby. Now with about 45 members who come from all walks of life, we are a small but friendly group. A few are professional engineers, but most are amateurs who work at home in their spare time to produce miniature locomotives, traction and stationary engines, and the like.
Not all the models run on steam, some diesel-outline locomotives are battery-powered, and provide an entry into the hobby for those without the time, know how or workshops to produce steam locomotives.
Some members do not have a running model locomotive, or it is still in the workshop under construction. Yet they may have a Mamod steam engine, or maybe a Meccano-constructed model of some sort. We encourage such models to be brought along to our Open Days and Exhibitions.
For visiting members of the public, we operate a 750 foot long miniature railway at Brett’s Quarries, Fordwich near Canterbury. This allows model locomotives of 3.5 and 5-inch gauge to be operated. With these we are now giving rides on most Sunday afternoons throughout the year (weather permitting of course).

This website attempts to show some of our many activities. Have a look at the "Events 2024" page, to see what we are doing next. Come back again some time and checkout that page; it changes more frequently, as the club accepts new bookings at exhibitions or such, as the year progresses.
A recent large update has also been posted to the
"News/What Happened 2024"
page.
People thinking of membership may also like to have a browse there,
to see if they too would like to share in our hobby.
