Sturry Track

Brett Quarry, Marlow Meadows, Fordwich, nr Canterbury, Kent

Our 750 foot long continuous track caters for both 3.5" and 5" gauge locomotives, there is also sufficient space to run model traction engines and road vehicles.

As the track is on private land access by members of the public is limited, usually to foot-access only. However, there are a number of public footpaths running across the site.

By Rail

Sturry Station is nearby, and is serviced by South Eastern Railway, see: https://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk
The station is for local stopping-trains, so if travelling on a High Speed service, this may require a change at Canterbury; check service times with South Eastern Railway.
Alight at Sturry Station and make towards Footpaths: "Field Way - The Mews" Or "Marlow Meadows".

By Bus

Sturry is also a busy road junction, with frequent bus services to and from Canterbury Bus Station, details of services provided by Stagecoach Buses, see: https://www.stagecoachbus.com

• From CANTERBURY:
  • Route "Triangle" towards Herne Bay (~15 min intervals)
  • Route 6 towards Herne Bay (~30 min intervals)
  • Route 7 towards Hoath / Herne Bay (~60 min intervals)
  • Routes 8 towards Margate
  ...Alight at stops: "Welsh Harp" (just BEFORE level crossing),
  or "Railway Station" (just AFTER level crossing).
  Cross the road and make towards Footpaths: "Field Way - The Mews" Or "Marlow Meadows".


• From HERNE BAY / HERNE / HOATH:
• Route "Triangle" towards Canterbury (~15 min intervals)
• Route 6 towards Canterbury (~30 min intervals)
• Route 7 towards Hoath / Canterbury (~60 min intervals)
...Alight at stops: "Railway Station" (just BEFORE level crossing).
or "Welsh Harp" (just AFTER level crossing),
Make towards Footpaths: "Field Way - The Mews" Or "Marlow Meadows".

By Bicycle:

There is only one pathway suitable for bicycles: "Marlow Meadows"; see "Footpaths" for directions.

By Footpaths:

Most of these footpaths tend to be overgrown, muddy or have low tree branches. They are not recommended for bicycles, and certainly not wheelchairs.

• A28 / Island Road.
  This is approximately 300 metres east of Sturry Railway station, along the A28 "Island Road".
  Passing between houses, then a simple swing gate leads across the railway line. Please take extreme care crossing!


• "Field Way - The Mews"
  "Field Way" is only 30 metres south from Sturry Level Crossing. Just at the start of "The Mews" a pathway on the right leads east. This then runs next to the railway fencing, past the old cricket ground, and football ground.


• Marlow Meadows.
  This is the only pathway suitable for bicycles.
  "Fordwich Road" is approximately 230 metres south from Sturry Level Crossing. "Marlow Meadows" is then some 170 meters south.
  Walk around the vechicle gate, and walk/cycle up the onsite access road.


• "Sturry Green".
  This pathway effectively starts at the pedestrian crossing over the A28, some 220 metres south from the railway level crossing, and is opposite to "Sturry High Street".
  Initially a concreted access road, it turns south. At a water utility point, turn east to join the "Fordwich Road" footpath.


• "Fordwich Road".
  Initially following directions for "Fordwich Road", but only some 75 meters south, opposite "Stour Mews", is the entrance to this footpath.
  This leads east through the trees, and joins the onsite access road.

By Car:

During "out of normal working hours" (i.e. weekends), cars are not normally able to gain on-site access. If disabled access is required, or it is desired to bring a model loco or traction engine such as for an 'Open Day' meeting, please contact our secretary for access arrangements. 📩 send email to: secretary@cdmes.org.uk

Otherwise, there is usually space to parkup in 'Marlow Meadows' just outside, walk around the vechicle gate, and walk up the onsite access road.
